As Jesus Christ, the Treasure of of all treasures, was suspended between heaven and earth, He was accomplishing something extraordinary. In Revelation 5:9-10, we read, "And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.” Jesus was being slaughtered so that He would purchase a people for God. He was redeeming a people from all peoples. He was making a treasured people that would be citizens of His Kingdom, priests offering worship to God through holy service and obedience as witnesses of His glory and grace.
The Father crucified His Beloved so that we would no longer be slaves to sin and under its condemnation. He purchased those who would turn and forsake their sin and idols in order to receive this Treasure and all He accomplished by faith. He spilled His blood so that we would deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Him, forever. He ransomed wretches to make them treasures so that on this earth, and for all eternity, we might join the chorus in heaven proclaiming the glorious worth of Christ.
So this Good Friday, what is Your greatest treasure, or rather, who should be your greatest Treasure? How will you display the infinite worth of Christ and all He's done to save us, keep us, and one day, bring us home into His presence? Trust in this Treasure and be satisfied in Him now and forever.
